Denver Nuggets reacted and tied the series against the Portland Trail Blazers with a good task from Facundo Campazzo

After their heavy defeat in Game 1, the Denver Nuggets showed their claws on Monday and achieved a clear victory over the Portland Trail Blazers: 128-109 to match the crossing in a win on the side. Huge scoring duel between Nikola Jokic (38 points) for the cattle and Damian Lillard (42 points), in a very physical encounter full of technical and flagrant fouls. We'll have the third duel in Oregon on Thursday. The series heats up.

More | Three issues explaining the loss of the Denver Nuggets in the first game of the 2021 Playoffs and to be corrected on Monday

Next, we review the most important observations that the meeting left us.

  • One of the keys to the first game had gone through Portland's one-on-one defense over Nikola Jokic, which was repeated on Monday. The problem for the Blazers is that while they re-limited Serbian assists in part (5), the pivot scored with astonishing ease every time he received the ball: he converted 15 of his 20 pitches, finishing with 38 points and 8 rebounds. Joker's MVP night.
  • The Denver bench contribution was another of the night's big spreads, with varied and important contributions, commanded by Paul Millsap's 15 points and 7 rebounds, in addition to Monte Morris' 12 goals and seven assists (+19 on court). The first lyings in the series were also seen for Shaq Harrison, who did a good job of helping shut down a burning Damian Lillard.

  • Another one that was key to that defense? Aaron Gordon, taking the assignment from the third quarter and fulfilling a more than solid work.
  • Facundo Campazzo's task was the other leg of the local triumph. The Argentine was everywhere and left his mark on the game in different ways, finishing with 12 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 cap and a 2-4 in triples. He even gave Jokic the luxury of assisting Jokic between McCollum's legs, who a few minutes earlier had had a blatant foul during a crossover in a replacement. Great task of Facu.
  • Little of a Michael Porter Jr. who wasn't in his night: 18 points but with an irregular 5-13 field. The contribution of role-playing players helped keep the Nuggets from missing him.
  • In Portland there was a sensational performance by Damian Lillard, author of 42 points (second personal team in Playoffs), 10 assists and a 9-16 in triples. Dame scored 32 points in the first half (22 in the second quarter and triple three-pointer record in one half with 8), with a hellish external shooting track, over any defender she had in front of her (Campazzo, Morris, Rivers). However, the base was much more controlled in the second half, adding up to 8 so many in the third period and only two in the last. Again, Aaron Gordon's work to put out the flames was key.

  • The rest of the Blazers had a lower-than-expected game, more than 21 points with a 9-12 field for McCollum, who had good numbers but little real impact on the match. The deficit included a Jusuf Nurkic who left early for fouls in the fourth half with only 7 points and a second unit that lost the scoring battle to Denver's 38-21.
